MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN THE FIRST SKI RESORT TO OPEN IN CALIFORNIA
MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN, CA - Mammoth Mountain fired up Broadway Express chairlift and 50 snowmaking guns this morning, kicking off the 2006/07 winter ski season. Under sunny skies, more than 100 people lined up before 8:30am and waited patiently to take their first run of the season. Mammoth is the first ski resort to open in California.
Woolly led the snow enthusiasts up Broadway Express followed by Mammoth local Tony Guerriero who arrived at the base of Broadway Express with his snow gear and donuts at 2am to ensure he would be on the first chair of the season. Sure enough, he was the first person to glide down Broadway on his snowboard, raising his arms triumphantly when he pulled back into the lift line. Guerriero has been on Mammoth's first chair of the season the past 10 out of 11 years.

Mammoth opened with a base depth of 6 to 12 inches of man-made snow and is currently operating Broadway Express. Snowmaking crews are working hard to prepare more slopes for skiing and snowboarding. Additional lifts will open as conditions permit.

Mammoth will host an Opening Celebration on Saturday, November 11. A champagne toast will take place at 11am, along with live music and an on-snow rail jam.
