Description
In early 2005, Dynastar hired Women's skiing guru Jeannie Thoren to be the head of their women's product group. According to Thorens' studies of thousands of skiers, many women spend the vast majority of their skiing time on groomed slopes. Yet, the majority of new products are geared toward giving those skiers a better tool to ski in the off trail, (a place that they have little desire to visit). The Exclusive carve is the first ski model produced from this R&D project and it may be one of the most significant developments of the season. The Carve is derived from a shape that was extensively tested by Thoren and was an overwhelming favorite for mostly groomed terrain. This new model is the narrowest under the foot of any ski we tested and it will initiate turns with a little nudge of the skiers ankle. The shape is aggressive, but not so much so that the skier cannot skid her turns, or relax on the ski. The Autodrive-W construction allows this ski to flex easily and deliver manageable energy. I was able to test a very short 157 and found it to be dazzlingly quick and hold very well on hard snow. I watched several women ski it and the difference in their skiing was notable. This Exclusive Carve made them better at quick short turns than they were a minute before. This new ski is the first model in several years to offer significant game improvement for mostly groomed skiing. A good intermediate could ski this model with ease in the 157 and an expert could rip on the 163.
Dynastar Women's binding systems:
All Dynastar women's skis in the mostly on trail categories are designed with a binding system that interacts with the Autodrive-W construction to place the skiers weight in the place where they need it most. Each ski in the series has a unique waist position, sidewall structure, and sidecut to maximize pressure distribution. The common thread in all the Exclusive skis is that all the systems employ a raised heel stance to help the woman skier get her weight forward. These skis all are designed around the light weight Nova binding from LOOK
