Jib friendly edges? - 2006/12/23 02:41 I am thinking about detuning (dulling) the edges on my beater board so it doesn't catch rails as easy. Anyone done this before and did it improve things much? Catching an edge on a rail SUCKS!

Re:Jib friendly edges? - 2006/12/23 08:13 I ski and I do it. just from the front of the toepiece to the end of the heel piece on each ski. It definately helps. when it get cold out and the rails are sticky and no one else can do them you still can. on a board just do it between your feet unless you do a lot of nose/tail presses then do the whole thing. it wont afffect overall peformance unless you get onto some real hard snow.

Re:Jib friendly edges? - 2006/12/26 17:22 you might want to try a bevel. something like 2-3 degrees. and i was thinking about taking my board and rounding the edges between my feet and then on the rest of the edges i have a 2 degree bevel on them. the best thing would be rounding all your edges, but if that's not an option def. try a bevel.

Re:Jib friendly edges? - 2006/12/29 06:34 if you are doing rails/boxes get either a one degree or a 0 degree. a 2 or three is more for carving or pipe. what I do it put a 3 degree bevel all around then file them down under foot hten i still get great pipe and groomer performance while not catching on rails.

Re:Jib friendly edges? - 2006/12/29 17:26 how does that work?

i mean 2 or 3 degree will lift the edges off the rail more = less catching.

have a 0 degree bevel on your base means that your edges are flush with the rail. a 1 degree will bring your edges up a bit, but that's usually where all edges are.

that's why it's called a park bevel, i believe the atomic alibi or hatchet and others have it.

Re:Jib friendly edges? - 2006/12/29 18:24 thats a base bevel I thought you were talking about an edge bevel. a 0 degree with an edge bevel means the edge is vertical while a 3 degree puts the edge at an 87 degree angle to the snow/ rail so more catching. but if you put a base bevel on it then yes you would be correct that is what he should do or better yet combine the 2 methods so that he would have about an 85 degre edge so good carving performance with the edges raised a bit off the rail so then he wouldnt need to detune the edges.

Re:Jib friendly edges? - 2006/12/29 19:21 AHHH i gotcha,

but yeah, best thing you can do is completly round your edges. and for your beater board, i'd say go for it. you'll be able to turn (more like slow down in a direction) in soft powdery stuff, but not so much on packed icy stuff.

if you want to still turn/carve with that board put a bevel to it. if you do, make sure you do it to both the base edge and the side edge. if you just put an angle on your base you'll have a 92 (depending on you angle) degree angle for your edge, which will make it harder to turn. you want to keep it at 90. if you make it less, it'll be easier to carve with.
